The level of abuse, neglect, torture, humiliation and sometimes secret killings of Gays in Ghana is common.
Sadly, human rights group, established to protect individual rights and liberties rather become the vocal bodies that urge for the arrest and jail of gays and lesbians which makes them more vulnerable in Ghana .
Speaking in interview with Kwame who prefers to hide his full name and identity, reveals how his partner was silently killed and burry overnight. The family claimed the existence of his partner is an abhorrent shame to the family, he added.
This is more dreadful in the Ghanaian Muslim communities, how Gays are subject to severe beatings and humiliations which is more encouraged by the preaching of Imams who mostly incite the youth to beat gays, explaining that, it’s an importation of European and American culture.
Sheikh Abubakar Mohammed in his Friday Utuba sermon at Afiguase, called on the youth to be vigilant against Gays , and deal gays in the Muslim community like Abdulai Issah,Ali Ahmed, Suleiman kamal in accordance with Sharia laws ,saying’ it’s an evil act and shall not have a space in our holy communities.
According to Sheikh Abubakar, the destruction of Sodom and Gomora was a punishment from Allah as a result of the practice of Gays and lesbians during the era of prophet LUT Pbuh and therefore should be flushed what he referred to as friends of satan.
Its unfortunately clear that,the Ghanaian or the African community is far from accepting LGBT, particularly gays .
Over the years, many have been forced to seek exiles for example, the whereabouts of Bulyaamin Karim,Iddrisu Musah, Ferguson Barnes Emmanuel, Ibrahim Abdallah including the above mentioned names are still unknown since escaping from their respective communities .
