Dennis Nana Dwamena popularly known as Kidi is a Ghanaian highlife and afrobeat singer and songwriter born on 18 August 1993 to Gerald and Beatrice Thompson in Accra-Ghana.
He has his basic education at the St. Anthony's School in Kumasi and moved on from there go Accra Academy where he had his Senior High education.
He graduated in 2016 with a degree in Economics and Information Studies from the University of Ghana. Kidi is signed to Lynx Entertainment and is best known for his hit song 'Odo'.
The remix of the song features Nigerian artist Davido and Mayorkun and has received massive airplay across Africa.
The same son won him the Highlife Song of the Year in the 2018 Ghana Music Awards and also won the Male Vocalist of the Year Award in the 2019 Ghana Music Awards. 'Sugar', his debut album won the album of the year in the 2020 Ghana Music Awards.
MUSIC CAREER
Kidi's love for music led him to perform on various "moonlight cafe" platforms - – a production that supports underground artists and gives them a platform to display their talents, whiles studying at the University. He joined the MTN Hitmaker competition which he won and got signed by Lynx Entertainment after. "Say You Love Me", a song he did not just compose but also arranged and produced in 2017 brought him to light.
KiDi established himself as one of the fastest rising stars in Ghana when he released yet another chart-topper titled "Odo" (meaning-Love) in July 2017, the remix of the song featured Davido and Mayorkun and was released in the same year. He also released "Adiepena" in April 2018. He was featured on Wyclef Jean's show 'Run That Back' in 2020.
KiDi has mounted several stages including the 2017 Rapperholic Concert, Ghana Music Honors 2017 Edition, December to Remember 2017, S. Concert 2017, and the 61st Ghana Independence Celebration Show in March 2018 at the Indigo 02 in London. KiDi has also produced several tracks for other artists and co-produced with award-winning Ghanaian producer, Richie Mensah.
He has performed on the same stage as many award-winning African artists including Sarkodie, Samini, Shatta Wale, Mzvee, Wizkid, Tiwa Savage, Efya, and Patoranking. He has also written for Ghanaian acts including the award-winning Mzvee and Adina and has collaborated with artists such as TicTac Ko-Jo Cue, Magnom, and Kwesi Arthur. KiDi received 6 nominations at the 2018 Vodafone Ghana including ‘Best New Artiste’, ‘Afro-pop Song of the Year’ and ‘Male Vocalist of the Year’ and went on to win the award for ‘High-life Song of the Year’ at the awards in April 2018.
