The Doctors later announced that he was responding to treatment but efforts to ensure he fights back his life has proven futile.
The soccer maestro played for FC Barcelona, Boca Juniors, and Napoli.
He was one of the two joint winners of the FIFA Player of the 20th Century award, along with Brazilian great Pelé.
Diego Armando Maradona was the head coach of the Argentine national team at the 2010 FIFA World Cup, hosted by South Africa but he saw his side being eliminated in the quarter-finals.
He is by some distance the best player of his generation and arguably the greatest of all time.
