In an interview on Metro Tv's KSM Show, on Friday, May 1, the host of Good Morning Ghana ''Dr Randy Abbey'' elaborated on the fact that, the deadly disease called COVID-19, has brought out the basic weakness of our country Ghana.
He further explained that, it was difficult for the country to deal with the thousands of the underprivileged and people, who were vulnerable to this disease and that is why, the president of Ghana initiated three weeks lockdown in the affected areas, '' Greater Accra, Greater Kumasi , Tema and Kasoa.''
As a guest, he stated that, there was much focus on the welfare nature of the country, because no data were gathered on the vulnerables and less privileged people, which caused struggles in the sharing of food to them.
He also made mention of the fact that, the outbreak of coronavirus has made them understand that, nothing has been done in the country. Until that, they were always boasting of the kind of work that has been done and how well they have been.
He said '' COVID-19 has actually brought to the fore the weaknesses…whatever we have; the supper structure is on a very weak foundation.”
In his statements, it was indicated that the people, government was protecting from attracting this disease, by implementing the lockdown, would have also lost their lives due to hunger because, their preparation towards the combat of the disease was poor.
“Whilst others are talking about the new normal, how are we averting our minds to what the new normal is and which steps are we taking to ensure that we will be ready for the new normal or we are really adapting to the new normal. Are we rather talking about this too shall pass and not waiting for it to pass so that we get back to our comfort zone?” he quizzed.
He explained that, many circumstances and situations always give Ghanaians opportunity to change the ways of doing things but its always not taken into consideration.
“What is the encouragement that this too shall pass?” he asked.
As it stands, the total case recorded in Ghana is 2,169 with 229 recoveries and 18 deaths. Greater Accra is still the epicenter of the disease.
