Two medical staff, working at the Medicine and Child Health Department of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, respectively, have tested positive for the deadly COVID-19.
One of them is a nurse and the other is a medical doctor. According to Daniel Asare, The Chief Executive Officer of the facility, this incident is unfortunate and predictable.
In an interview with Joy News, he stated that, health professionals working in the facility are at greater risk of getting the disease, since they are the " soldiers" of the war against this pandemic. He further said that, " we only pray they all get better and join us soon.
He was also bullish that government’s promise to make Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) available for frontline workers will be delivered to prevent further fatality as they carry out their duties.
He said, some processes are being initiated in the facility to help identify people who might have come in contact with the two staff who tested positive for Covid- 19.
This he noted, will ensure that the spread pandemic in the country is effectively contained.
“We are currently testing all the staff that came in contact with the patients in their various departments and put them under surveillance“We won’t end there, their various households will also be tested as protocol demands to make sure that everyone is safe,” he stated.
