As part of government measures, to curb the spread of this deadly disease, activities and movements in some urban areas in the country will be restricted for two weeks.
This lockdown affected the areas where high number of cases have been recorded in the country, which are Accra, Tema, Kumasi and Obuasi.
According to the Daily Guide newspaper, sources at the presidency reports that: “Beginning midnight on Sunday, March 29, 2020, a lockdown is expected to take effect in some parts of Ghana. Police are expected to be deployed at barricades and access to essential services suspended.”
Since Monday, there have been numerous calls on President Nana Akufo-Addo to declare a lockdown like many countries have done to mitigate the growing spread of the deadly disease.
As of Friday, March 27, 2020, Ghana has recorded 137 confirmed cases.
A lockdown is typically an emergency protocol that a state uses to prevent people from leaving a particular area.
The president is yet to make an announcement at 11, to make clear to his people, what they can do or cannot do under the lockdown in the four cities.
